Hurricane Maria made landfall around 8 am as a category 4 hurricane, bringing winds over 155 mph. Currently, Puerto Rico is experiencing heavy winds, rain, potential high storm surge flooding and power outages.
Puerto Rico
Due to the anticipated storm effects, our San Juan office will be closed today and tomorrow, Thursday September 21st for the safety of our employees. All government agencies, schools, ocean terminals will be closed through Wednesday. Flight cancellations have already begun and there will be severe delays in Puerto Rico until further notice.
Dominican Republic
Major ports will be closed starting this afternoon. Local trucking companies, terminals, ocean and air carriers offices, and airports will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 21st. Our office in Santo Domingo will also be closed Thursday, Sept. 21st.
The 7.1 earthquake that stroke Mexico City yesterday at 1:00pm, caused severe damage to buildings and infrastructure all across Mexico City and Estado de Mexico. 30 building felt down and many others were evacuated and are currently being evaluated. The damage was more severe in central Mexico City which a heavily populated area with busy business activity. Public transportation was re-established today, however many of our employees will find it difficult to come to work today others are assisting in rescue labors in their communities.
Our Mexico City office remains open. Due to damages, our warehouse operations buildings are closed and authorities will evaluate each facility prior to occupancy. Airport and Customs facilities have received structural damages and remain closed. Customs will remain closed until further evaluation.
