It was reported over three weeks ago that the Chittagong Customs House (CCH) suspended the license of Continental Traders, the local shipping agent of Chinese state-run Cosco Shipping Lines. Vessels that were in transit for Bangladesh’s Port of Chittagong were allowed to complete the voyage, but the agency instructed no further Cosco-affiliated ships would be allowed to enter the port.
The Appellate Division upheld the suspension ruling this week. Due to this, there is potential for disruption of cargo moving into or out of Chittagong on vessels operated by Cosco Shipping Lines.
Cosco Shipping Lines reportedly handles approximately six percent of the containers going into and out of the Port of Chittagong.
