A 72-hour strike notice was issued by two unionized workforces, the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference-Train & Engine (TCR) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) to the Canadian Pacific Railway. Canadian Pacific says it has begun shutting down operations of trains but continues to bargain with TCR and IBEW.

The strike is set to take effect just after midnight on April 21.
