Seasonal Measures for Brown Marmorated Stink Bug in Australia - Airfreight Consignments: August 18, 2021

The 2021-2022 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) season in Australia will recommence for goods shipped from September 1st, 2021. Due to an increase in detection in the previous season in cargo moving by air, the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment will be conducting random inspections on some air cargo.

The verification process will commence from September 1st through until November 30th 2021.

Air cargo loaded in the United States & Italy with goods classified to Chapters 84, 85, 86 & 87 of the Customs Tariff, (which includes machinery, electrical & IT equipment, railway stock, vehicles and parts) may be subject to random inspection on arrival.

The Department is still working through how to best implement the verification regime with details yet to be finalized.  If you are importing targeted goods from these countries your cargo may be set aside to undergo inspection for BMSB causing delivery delays.
