Industrial Action at Australia Ports: September 18, 2020

The Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) notified Patrick Terminals of its intention to take further Protected Industrial Action at Patrick Terminals, Melbourne and Fremantle. This is in addition to the Protected Action previously advised. 

Melbourne

  • 24-hour stoppage of work commencing at 6:00 am Friday, 18 September, 2020. 
  • One hour stoppages at 6:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 10:00 pm every day for 14 consecutive days commencing on Monday, 21 September, 2020. 

Fremantle

  • Ban on the performance of work on the Margaret River Bridge starting at 11:00 pm Thursday, 17 September, 2020 to 07:00 am Saturday, 19 September, 2020.
  • A ban on attending work on days an employee is called into work after being placed on the standby list beginning at 07:00 am on 17 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on attending work on days an employee is called into work when not allocated beginning at 07:00 am on 17 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.

Melbourne

  • One hour stoppages at 6:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 10:00 pm each day beginning Monday, 14 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on the performance of overtime beginning at 06:00 am on Monday, 14 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on performance of upgrades and/or work in higher levels from 07:00 am Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on working shift extensions from 07:00 am Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on performing work on vessels that have been subcontracted or outsourced to Patrick Terminals by another stevedoring company from 07:00 am Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.

Brisbane

  • A ban on performing work on vessels that have been subcontracted or outsourced to Patrick by another stevedoring company from 07:00 am Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period. 
  • Four hour stoppages commencing at 07:00 am and 7:00 pm on Friday, 11 September as well as Friday, 18 September, 2020.
  • A ban on the performance of shift extensions commencing at 07:00 am Friday, 11 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on attending work on days an employee is rostered as "off/avail" from 07:00 am Friday, 11 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on attending work on days an employee is called into work after being placed on the standby list from 07:00 am Friday, 11 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on attending work after being called into work when not allocated from 07:00 am Friday, 11 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on performing upgrades and/or work in higher levels, with the exception of Leading Hand Lasher, from 07:00 am Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.

Fremantle 

  • A ban on working shift extensions from 07:00 am Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on working overtime from 07:00 am Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on performing work on vessels that have been subcontracted or outsourced to Patrick by another stevedoring company from 07:00 am Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on performing upgrades and/or work in higher levels from 07:00 am Friday, 11 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on attending work on days an employee is rostered as "off/avail" from 07:00 am Monday, 14 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.

Sydney

  • A ban on performing work on Project SABRE (Port-side Rail Project) commencing at 06:00 am Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on performing upgrades and/or work in higher levels beginning at 06:00 am on Saturday, 5 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on performing work on vessels that have been subcontracted or outsourced to Patrick Terminals by another stevedoring company beginning at 06:00 am on Friday, 4 September, 2020 for an indefinite period. 
  • A ban on performing overtime commencing at 06:00 am Friday, 11 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
  • A ban on performing shift extensions commencing at 06:00 am Friday, 11 September, 2020 for an indefinite period.
