On November 7, 2016 the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced during the inaugural meeting of the U.S.-Argentina Council on Trade and Investment (Council), it will conduct a public review to establish whether Argentina is meeting the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) eligibility criteria.

During the Council meeting the Argentine Government bid the United States to consider reinstating, “Argentina as a beneficiary developing country for the GSP program.” A program from which they were suspended from receiving benefits in 2012. The USTR announced a public review process would be initiated to determine Argentina’s eligibility.

The U.S.-Argentina Council will next meet in Washington, D.C. in 2017.
