In a Federal Register notice to be published on August 19, 2015, the Office of the U.S Trade Representative (USTR) is advising the trade that petitions for product and country eligibility under the Generalized System of Preference (GSP) will now be accepted.
The notice clarifies that, “USTR is prepared to receive petitions to modify the list of products that are eligible for duty-free treatment under the GSP program and to modify the GSP status of certain GSP beneficiary developing countries because of country practices.”
Petitions can be submitted on GSP Product Reviews, Country Practices Reviews, and Competitive Need Limitations (CNLs). The submission deadlines are as follows:
- October 16, 2015- Petitions to modify the list of goods and countries eligible for duty-free treatment under GSP.
- November 23, 2015- Petitions requesting waivers of CNLs
USTR will publish the petitions accepted for review in a Federal Register notice.
