In a memorandum issued by the White House, on September 11, 2015, President Obama has issued a statement that calls for the “continuation of the Exercise of Certain Authorities Under the Trading With the Enemy Act.”

It was established that the original end date for the exercise of certain authorities under the Trading With the Enemy Act would be September 14, 2015 in regards to Cuba. President Obama has stated that this date will continue for an additional year, with a revised end date of September 14, 2016. National interest was stated as the reason for the continuation of those authorities implemented by the Cuban Assets Control Regulation, 31 C.F.R. Part 515.
