U.A.E. Ceases All Shipments to Libya

Posted by Julia Gogoll on 9/16/14 4:21 PM

On September 11, 2014, U.A.E. port authorities issued instructions to stop loading containers for export and transshipment bound for Libyan ports, effective immediately.

While no official circulars have been distributed, a press release by Safmarine explains that, “containers bound for Libya will be held at the port and will not be loaded on the designated vessels; even if they have been load-listed. The containers can be taken out from the port after the hold is released from customs upon the shipper’s request.”

Furthermore, booking for shipments from the U.A.E. to Libya through airline and ocean carriers has been disabled at this time.

Expeditors will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they occur. Please contact your local Expeditors office for specific questions and concerns.
