In a Federal Register (FRN) notice to be published on May 18, 2016, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is announcing that the Burmese Sanctions Regulations are being amended and two general licenses will be added.

The first general license will “authorize certain transactions related to maintenance of U.S. persons residing in Burma, including payment of living expenses and acquisition of goods or services for personal use.” The second general license was added in December 2015 and was approved for six months, which allowed previously blocked goods, technology, or non-financial services to or from Burma. The time limitation has now been removed and now allows additional transactions incident to the movement of goods within Burma.

These amended sanction regulations went into effect on May 18, 2016.
