In a Federal Register Notice (FRN) to be published on August 3, 2016 the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announced they will be revising the requirements for certain fishery products to meet the obligations set out by the SAFE Port Act of 2006, the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA), and other regional fishery management organizations (RFMOs).

According to the notice, “NMFS will require annually renewable International Fisheries Trade Permits (IFTP) for the import, export, and re-export of certain regulated seafood commodities that are subject to trade monitoring programs of RFMOs and/or subject to trade documentation requirements under domestic law.”

This final rule will also consolidate current international trade permits while expanding the scope of the permit requirements.

This final NMFS rule will become effective September 20, 2016, except for the 300.184 revision which will become effective the date of publication in the Federal Register.
