On April 15, 2013, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) issued a news article announcing that Madagascar is joining the ATA Carnet system, beginning April 22, 2013.
In the article, the ICC explains that "joining the ATA Carnet scheme is part of Madagascar’s drive for better access to world trade, notably through regional integration and the development of tourism."
ATA Carnets act as an international Customs document, allowing the temporary importation of certain goods without the payment of duties or taxes. They are administered by the World Customs Organization and the ICC World Chamber Federation.
Currently, more than 70 countries are members of the ATA Carnet System.
