On September 23, 2014, the Port of Los Angeles confirmed that most container terminals remain closed after a massive fire erupted underneath a port warehouse last night, September 22, 2014. The fire has been contained, but port employees were advised to stay absent, as a precaution, due to possibilities of toxic smoke.

According to a release by gCaptain, “At least two large cargo ships were moved to a safe location as a precaution. The smoke caused the overnight closure of several shipping terminals, leading to the evacuation of over 850 dock workers as a precaution. As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, all container terminals at the Port of Los Angeles were closed.”

While the effect on vessel arrival and cargo availability has yet to be reported,  Expeditors is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they occur.
