Follow-Up: Argentina Releases New Import Licensing Regulations

On December 22, 2015 the Ministry of Production in Argentina released Resolution No. 5/2015 which covers two types of licensing requirements for goods imported under definitive basis for consumption.

The first type is an Automatic License applicable for all products covered in the Common Nomenclature, which is normally approved within 10 days. The second type of license is a Non Automatic License, which is applicable for goods covered in point 1) of Annex II to XVII of Resolution No. 5/2015 and 2/16 which covers goods such as paper, cardboard, air fans, air conditioning equipment, refrigerators, dryers, washing machines, electric irons, microwave ovens, radios, TVs, footwear, motorcycles, tires, carpets, apparel clothing, pumps for liquids, automobiles, auto parts among others.

Other items including; samples, donations, diplomatic franchises, goods benefited with duties and taxes franchises, goods originating and incoming from the Special Customs Area of Tierra del Fuego, and imports made by the General Secretary of Presidency are excluded from import licensing. Couriers and postal traffic are excluded from import licensing only when goods are imported for one’s own use or consumption of the importer. Import licenses will have a validity of 90 calendar-days, computed since the date of their approval in the Import Monitoring Integral System (SIMI).
