Department of State Determines Cuba, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and Venezuela Are Not Cooperating with Antiterrorism Efforts

In a Federal Register notice to be published on June 4, 2014, the Department of State is certifying that, under Section 40 A of the Arms Export Control Act, Cuba, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and Venezuela are not sufficiently cooperating with U.S. antiterrorism efforts.
 
Under the act, the following transactions with the subject countries are prohibited, unless a waiver is granted:

  • Exporting any munitions item  
  • Selling, leasing, loaning, granting, or otherwise providing any munitions item either directly or indirectly
  • Taking any other action which would facilitate the acquisition, directly or indirectly, of any  munitions item by the government
