On March 30, 2015, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) #15-000192 requesting trade participation in the newly formed Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) working group.

The implementation of the International Trade Data System (ITDS) will affect transactions of DDTC-controlled goods between CBP, DDTC, and trade stakeholders, and trade involvement is needed “to ensure that business process changes continue to support efficient trade while complying with the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act (SAFE Port Act) requirement for NHTSA to participate in ITDS.”

The working group, which will include affected importers, software developers, and representatives from DDTC and CBP, will hold weekly conference calls to discuss technical and business process changes.

Responses have to be submitted by April 3, 2015.
