On February 6, 2013, Canada's Ministry of International Trade and Ministry for the Asia-Pacific Gateway issued a press release announcing that the seventh round of negotiations towards a Canada-India Comprehensive Trade Agreement took place in New Delhi on February 5 - 6.
In the release, the Ministry notes that "a Canada-India joint study concluded that a trade agreement between the two countries could boost Canada’s economy by at least $6 billion." The Minitry said in their release that economic opportunities between Canada and India exist in the energy, agriculture, infrastructure and education sectors.
A Canada-India trade agreement is part of Canada's plan to open up their economy to new markets. The ministry notes that Canada is also involved in negotiations with the European Union, Japan, and member countries of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
