In a Federal Register Notice (FRN) to be published on August 5, 2016 the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announced that an amendment to the Cotton Board Rules and Regulations is being implemented and a decrease to the value assigned to imported cotton is being issued.

The Cotton Research and Promotion Program calculates yearly supplemental assessments that have been collected on imported cotton and cotton content of imported products. “This amendment is required each year to ensure that assessments collected on imported cotton and the cotton content of imported products will be the same as those paid on domestically produced cotton.” The amended assessment would be $0.011012 per kilogram compared to the current assessment of $0.012013 per kilogram.

The effective date of this amendment will be 60 days after the date of publication in the Federal Register. Comments on the rule can be submitted electronically to the Federal eRulemaking Portal.
