Late last year many of the world’s largest airlines made structural changes to the way in which they apply fuel surcharge rates. The changes made relate to applying the surcharge based on the chargeable weight vs. on the actual weight of the shipment. Expeditors has continued to monitor these developments closely and study the impact on surcharge costs in the applicable regions and trade-lanes. At this time, effective April 7, 2014, Expeditors will make further amendments to its fuel surcharges in terms of application basis and amounts as follows:
From North America and Latin America (Americas region) to Europe, Africa and the Near Middle East / Indian Sub-continent (EMAIR region):
- The fuel surcharge will be applied on a shipment’s chargeable weight
- The fuel surcharge amount to the affected regions will be reduced by USD 0.10/kg (or the local currency equivalent of the prevailing country)
Expeditors provides information on adjustments to the fuel surcharge levels for exports through a fuel surcharge matrix updated on a weekly basis. There are regular adjustments to airfreight fuel surcharges applied to shipments from Asia, and the changes can be viewed in the weekly matrix.
Expeditors' customers can obtain a copy of the fuel surcharge matrix by contacting their local Expeditors office.
