FDA to Increase Unannounced Inspections at Foreign Facilities

Posted by Timothy Miller on 5/8/25 5:00 PM

In a press release published on May 6, 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the agency’s intent to expand the use of unannounced inspections at “foreign manufacturing facilities that produce foods, essential medicines, and other medical products intended for American consumers and patients.”

The FDA conducts approximately 3,000 inspections each year at foreign facilities and the agency wants to use unannounced inspections to help ensure that “every product entering the U.S. is safe, legitimate, and honestly made’ and “expose bad actors.”
