CPSC Adjusts Max Penalty Amount for Violations

In a Federal Register Notice (FRN) published on November 23, 2016 the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced an adjustment to the maximum civil penalty amounts, which are reviewed and published every five years, per the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA).

The penalty amounts are reviewed and based on cost of living adjustments. The main updates occurred on the maximum civil penalty from $100,000 to $105,722 and for a series of violations, the amount increased from $15,000,000 to $16,025,000.

The revised penalty amount will become effective January 1, 2017.
