During the eighth Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) commission meeting held from November 27 to 28, 2024, its members extended an invitation to Costa Rica to begin the process of joining the partnership.
Costa Rica had applied to join CPTPP in August 2022 and has since worked with other members of the partnership to get consensus approval for their accession.
CPTPP is a free trade agreement between Canada and 10 other nations: Australia, Brunei, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. The United Kingdom will also join the CPTPP on December 15, 2024.
