On December 31, 2018, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced they would require Advance Electronic Data (AED) on all international mail destined for the U.S. and originating from the People’s Republic of China.

According to CBP, the notice applies to Hong Kong, Macau, and “…Foreign Postal Operators that ship goods destined for the United States, which originated in the People’s Republic of China.” CBP also advises carriers to reject any containers that do not have 100 percent of the required AED.

Enforcement action may begin “at any time” beginning January 1, 2019. CBP directs any questions to ofo-manifestbranch@cbp.dhs.gov.
