CBP Issues Guidance on Additional Section 232 Tariffs

On February 4, 2020, in Cargo Systems Messaging Service #41538803, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued guidance on the additional tariffs on derivative steel and aluminum articles under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.

These additional duties will apply to derivative steel and aluminum articles including:

  • Certain nails;
  • Certain bumper stampings; and
  • Various wire cables.

Section 232 duties are not eligible for drawback.  Additionally, goods that are subject to Section 232 duties are not eligible for duty preference under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) or the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

The additional duties will be effective February 8, 2020.
