A Manufacturer’s Affidavit, sometimes referred to as a Manufacturer’s Certificate, is a sworn statement provided by the manufacturer that attests to the origin, production details, and sometimes the composition of a product. 

This document is often required in various legal, commercial, and regulatory contexts in international transactions, particularly when goods are being exported or re-imported or when specific trade agreements or customs regulations apply.  While its specific requirements can vary by country, the general purpose and application of the manufacturer’s affidavit are recognized globally. 

Common Uses of a Manufacturer’s Affidavit

• Verification of Origin: In cases where a Certificate of Origin is unavailable or insufficient, a Manufacturer’s Affidavit can serve as an alternative to confirm the country where the goods were produced.
• Pre-Shipment Confirmation: When a buyer pays for goods before shipment but after production, the seller may issue a Manufacturer’s Affidavit to confirm quality assurance that the goods have been manufactured in accordance with the contract. This builds trust and facilitates the release of payment and shipping instructions.
• Customs and Duty-Free Reentry: If a product manufactured domestically is exported and later returned, a Manufacturer’s Affidavit may be required to qualify for duty-free reentry under U.S. Customs regulations.
