On April 15, 2019, the World Trade Organization (WTO) marked the 25th anniversary of its establishment.

The 1994 signing of the trade agreement in Marrakesh, Morocco, included more than 120 nations and covered over 60 agreements on international trade. According to the press release published by the organization, the creation of the WTO, “marked the biggest reform of international trade since after the Second World War” and established,  “…a global framework for nations in liberalizing trade in goods and services, protecting intellectual property rights, and easing trade tensions.”

The WTO now accounts for 98% of world trade with 164 members.
