USTR Releases Annual Special 301 Report

On April 25, 2019, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) released its annual Special 301 Report on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and the “Notorious Markets List.”

The report covers 36 countries identified by the USTR as trading partners who present the most concerns on IPR and 33 online and 25 physical markets “…reported to engage in and facilitate substantial copyright piracy and trademark counterfeiting.”

The countries listed on the priority watch list include:

  • China;

  • Indonesia;

  • India;

  • Algeria;

  • Kuwait;

  • Saudi Arabia;

  • Russia;

  • Argentina;

  • Chile;

  • Venezuela.

Countries placed on the priority watch list were found by the USTR to have deteriorating or inadequate levels of IPR protections.
