On February 4, 2020, the United Kingdom (UK) updated its guidance regarding rules of origin for the Brexit transition period. The Withdrawal Agreement with the European Union (EU) allows the UK to be covered by EU-third country trade agreements during the transition period.
UK and EU content will also continue to count towards the rules of origin for EU trade agreements. The EU has issued Note Verbale on the Agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and European Atomic Energy Community which includes notification to the international community that the UK will be considered part of the EU for international agreements during the transition period.
At the end of the transition period, the EU trade agreements will no longer apply to the UK.
