UK Issues Guidance for Trade Community Ahead of Brexit

Posted by Marta Gargallo on 1/28/20 6:00 PM

The Government of the United Kingdom (UK) notified all VAT-registered businesses trading with the European Union (EU) and other countries, of actions that they must take before the end of the transition period.

These actions include:

  • Obtaining a UK Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number; and
  • Making preparations for the new customs procedures.

There will be no changes to the terms of trade with the European Union or the rest of the world during the transition period.  This period begins after the UK leaves the EU on January 31, 2020 and will last through December 31, 2020.  The new customs procedures will be effective January 1, 2021.
