On October 11, 2017, in a joint letter to the WTO members, the UK and the EU outlined proposals in preparation for future trading arrangements including the separation of the UK’s trading commitments from the EU’s overall commitments such as the overall tariffs set.
The UK and EU are working to maintain existing market access for countries in the following areas:
- apportioning tariff rate quotas (TRQs)
- apportioning agricultural subsidies
- UK’s membership of the WTO Government Procurement Agreement
Trade Secretary Dr. Liam Fox said: “we’ve been working closely with the European Commission to prepare for our withdrawal from the EU in order to minimise any disruption to global trade.” Until its withdrawal at the end of March 2019, the UK remains a Member State of the European Union with all the rights and obligations of a Member State including in respect of the EU's Common Commercial Policy.
