On March 5, 2015, Port Metro Vancouver confirmed that most port operations on the South Shore of Burrard Inlet have resumed after a chemical fire erupted yesterday afternoon. The Centerm container terminal, as well as a 100 meter exclusion zone around the smoldering container, remain closed.

According to a statement by the port, “Crews from Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services worked throughout the night to suppress and monitor the fire burning in a shipping container at the Centerm Container Terminal on the south shore of Burrard Inlet. Fire officials have isolated the fire and continue to monitor the container. Our primary concern continues to be the safety of first responders, the public and all port workers.”

While the fire has been contained, the public is still encouraged to avoid the area.

Expeditors will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they occur. Please contact your local Expeditors representative should you have additional questions.
