On January 7, 2016 U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) published Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) #16-000008 clarifying the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) earlier published Federal Register Notice announcing that the FCC 740 form that covers Radio Frequency (RF) devices will be waived while Customs and Border Protection (CBP) completes the transition to the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system.
The FCC would like to confirm that electronic FCC-required information can be filed through ACE-Entry Summary, which is then directed in the legacy Automated Commercial System (ACS) until July 1, 2016. After that date the new ACE system will not have the capability to file this form electronically and instead of having importers submit these forms by paper exclusively, the FCC has decided to waive the form. This waiver will allow time for the FCC to make a final determination on how Radio Frequency (RF) devices will be handled in the future.
The beginning date for the FCC 740 form waiver will begin July 1, 2016 and proceed until the FCC announces how they would like to proceed. To read the full message, please see here
