In a recently published news release, the European Commission (EC) announced the publication of the text of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement. The EU-Vietnam FTA negotiations were concluded in December 2015.

The EU-Vietnam FTA will provide greater opportunity to EU firms and will help to reinforce relations between the two economies and societies. According to EU Trade Commissioner Cecelia Malmstrom, “The agreement will also help trigger a new wave of high quality investment in both directions, supported by our new investment dispute resolution system with an appeal mechanism."

The text of the agreement will now undergo a legal review before being translated into the languages of the EU and Vietnam. The FTA will then be sent to the respective governments, for ratification.
