In a Federal Register notice to be published on October 30, 2014, the Department of Commerce is terminating the antidumping duty (ADD) order on wooden bedroom furniture from China for certain wall bed units, also known to as murphy beds, effective October 30, 2014. The Department of Commerce released the Initiation Notice in May, 2014, and published the Preliminary Determination in August, 2014.

According to the notice, “because the producers accounting for substantially all of the production of the domestic like product to which the Order pertains lack interest in the relief provided by the Order with respect to certain wall bed units, we are revoking the Order, in part.”

Beds composed of the following three main sections will be excluded from the ADD scope:

  • A metal wall frame, which attaches to the wall and uses coils or pistons to support the metal mattress frame
  • A metal frame, which has euro slats for supporting a mattress and two legs that pivot
  • Wood panels, which attach to the metal wall frame and/or the metal mattress frame to form a cabinet to enclose the wall bed when not in use.

Murphy beds excluded from the scope are imported ready-to-assemble, with all parts included. Wood panels of wall bed units that are imported separately will remain subject to the ADD order.
