On September 20, 2012, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) published Customs Notice 12-026 with implementation information for the Canada-Jordan Free Trade Agreement (CJFTA).

The CJFTA becomes effective on October 1, 2012. According to the notice, "with the exception of a few agricultural goods, the CJFTA will eliminate duties on all imports of Jordan origin, either immediately upon implementation of the agreement, or through tariff phase-out." In addition, a new preferential tariff treatment, called the Jordan Tariff (JT), has been created.

Under the CJFTA, importers must have a Canada-Jordan Certificate of Origin, completed by the exporter in Jordan, in their possession for each qualifying shipment.
