Argentina Modifies Import Duty Rates on Numerous Tariffs

On October 6, 2014, Argentina published in its Official Bulletin decree 1676/2014 amending the import duty rates for approximately 100 tariffs, including motorcycles, computers, mobile phones, toys, tools, food, sparkling wine, fireworks, machinery, aircrafts, vessels, and surgical medical furniture, among others.

This modification is supported by Decision 39/11, under which the Mercosur Secretariat authorizes its members to temporarily modify import duties to counteract trade imbalances. The goal is to raise import duties to exceed the Common External Duty, however, the increased duty rates cannot be higher than the rates set by the World Trade Organization for its member parties.

The new duties became effective on October 7, 2014
