FCC Announces Plans to Eliminate Form 740 for RF Devices

On July 13, 2017 the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) released a press release announcing their intentions to discontinue the FCC Form 740 for Radio Frequency devices, which was previously required for entry filing.

The FCC Form 740 has been waived since July 2016 to help facilitate the transition to ACE electronic filings.  According the release, “…CBP’s revised database and the increasing availability of product information on the Internet and through other means have reduced the practical need for the form.”

Additionally, FCC marking requirements are being updated and will allow for electronic display marking in lieu of etching or permanent labels on the devices exterior. This update is in line with the Enhance Labeling, Accessing, and Branding of Electronic Licenses Act of 2014 (E-LABEL Act).

The updated FCC requirement will become effective upon publication in the Federal Register notice.
