On May 16, 2018, the European Commission posted in the Official Journal of the European Union (EU) retaliatory measures on certain goods originating from the U.S. in response to the Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs.

The EU plans to apply the additional duties in two stages. The first stage places an increase of 25% on certain products listed in Annex I of the resolution, and is to become effective June 20, 2018. The second stage places an increase of 10%, 25%, 35%, or 50% on certain products listed in Annex II of the resolution, and becomes effective on March 23, 2021, or earlier if the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dispute Settlement Body rules the U.S. Section 232 tariffs are inconsistent with WTO provisions.
