EU Initiates Safeguard Investigation on Steel Imports

On March 26, 2018, the European Union (EU) initiated an investigation on imports of steel products.

According to a notice posted by the EU, there has been an increase in imported steel products since 2013, with a significant jump in imports occurring between 2015 and 2016. There is a concern that the increase in steel imports, which may be sold at a lower price than domestically produced steel which could have a negative impact on the EU steel industry. The investigation seeks written comments from interested EU parties, including exporting producers, importers, and users of the steel products.

Written submissions must be received within 21 days from the investigation notice.
