Contingency Plan Announced for Laredo/Nuevo Laredo Border Crossing After Severe Weather

Posted by Sarah Lilly on 5/23/17 4:38 PM

English Version:

Last Sunday, May 21st, a massive storm hit the US/Mexico border area of Laredo and Nuevo Laredo with flooding and severe damages causing a closure at the Customs facilities on both sides of the border. An estimated 72 hours are required for the re-establishment of operations, however, the damage has not yet been quantified and a partial clearing and full restoration is expected for next week.

Due to the situation, Customs has implemented a contingency plan which allows the continuity of operations through the Colombia port of entry (located at 20 miles from Nuevo Laredo). However, in consideration of the volume that crosses daily through this port and that there are only 2 lanes enabled, there is a great amount of congestion with an estimated time of 8 to 10 hours for the crossing into the US:

Export

Import

Nuevo Laredo: Lanes 3,4 and oversized
Colombia: Lanes 4 and 5

Nuevo Laredo: Lanes 1,2 and 3
Colombia: 4 and 5

In addition, other nearby customs ports such as Piedras Negras, Reynosa and Matamoros have been arranged, with extended schedules and specific lanes to attend the operation.

Please, contact your Customer Service Representative in Nuevo Laredo and Laredo for further information.
