On April 13, 2017, the Canadian Global Affairs office announced the repeal of Canadian sanctions against Côte D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and Liberia.

The Côte D’Ivoire sanctions were adopted by the United Nations on November 15, 2004 under UN Security Council Resolution 1572. Canada implemented the sanctions on May 3, 2005 as the “United Nations Côte D’Ivoire Regulations.” Following the passage of UN Security Council Resolution 2283, which terminated the sanctions after more than 11 years, Canada repealed its United Nations Côte D’Ivoire Regulations on April 13, 2017.

UN Security Council Resolution 1343 imposed sanctions against Liberia effective March 7, 2001. Canada adopted this resolution on July 12, 2001 as “Regulations Implementing the United Nations Resolutions on Liberia.” The UN terminated the Liberia sanctions as of May 25, 2016. Canada repealed its Liberia sanctions on April 13, 2017.
