Canada Imposes Countermeasures against the U.S. in Response to Steel and Aluminum Tariffs

On May 31, 2018, the Department of Finance of Canada posted a notice of intent to impose countermeasures against the U.S., in response to tariffs on imported Canadian steel and aluminum products.

The countermeasures will only apply to goods of U.S. origin listed in tables 1 and 2 on the notice, and will take effect July 1, 2018. The goods listed in table 1 will be subject to a 25% surtax, while the goods listed in table 2 will be subject to a 10% surtax.
