Canada Finalizes List of Countermeasures on U.S. Goods in Response to U.S. Steel and Aluminum Tariffs

On June 29, 2018, Canada’s Department of Finance released a finalized list of tariffs on goods of U.S. origin in response to the U.S. Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum products.

The Department of Finance lists the final tariffs in three tables. Table 1 covers steel products subjected to a 25% surtax, while Table 2 covers aluminum products subjected to a 10% surtax. Table 3 covers several other products such as various foods and agricultural products, whiskey, cosmetics and hygienic products, insecticides and fungicides, household products, stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, lawn mowers, washing machines, boats, and other products.

The tariffs are set to take effect on July 1, 2018.
