Q: Where can I see the 2022 Harmonized System (HS) changes?

A: The World Customs Organization changes are finalized and published on their website. Each country is publishing on its own schedule. Click the link above to access our Harmonized System resources page.

 

Q: Are all countries adopting the World Customs Organization (WCO) Harmonized System (HS) changes on January 1, 2022?

A: We don’t have a crystal ball, but we assume most countries who utilize the WCO’s nomenclature will be ready to go on January 1st and will enforce the use of the new classification numbers.

 

Q: Do the 2022 Harmonized System (HS) changes affect both imports and exports?

A: Yes, countries utilize the World Customs Organization (WCO) nomenclature to build both their import and export classification systems. In fact, most countries maintain just one classification system that is used for both imports and exports.

 

Q: Are duty rates going to change due to the 2022 Harmonized System (HS) changes?

A: In our experience, the intent of these HS changes is not to raise or reduce duty rates. However, it is always a possibility for duty rates to change – a further investigation would need to be done at a country level.
